Give This a Listen — Muppets: The Green Album

The Muppets

I am a huge fan of the Muppets. I loved the Muppet Show and The Muppet “Trilogy” (The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper The Great Muppet Caper, The Muppets Take Manhattan The Muppets Take Manhattan) are high on the list of my favorite movies. And since I first saw the trailer for the new Muppet Movie I have been really looking forward to Thanksgiving so we can see it.

Muppets: The Green Album Album Cover

So when I heard a few weeks ago this new album was coming out out called The Green Album featuring covers of some of the most memorable Muppet songs, I knew I would like it but had no idea I’d like is this much. I’ve been listening to it almost nonstop. It truly is fantastic—well worth the $10. I like every song on the album but my absolute favorite is Rainbow Connection covered by Weezer and Hayley Williams (of Paramore). I don’t know if it brings back some deep-seeded childhood memory, but I get literally get chills every time I listen to it. No kidding! There are also songs by The Fray, Amy Lee, My Morning Jacket and Andrew Bird. I haven’t heard of  some of the other artists but their versions of these classic songs do not disappoint.

If you grew up watching the Muppets and you’re looking for some new music or even if you’re just looking for something new, you should definitely check this album out iTunes Small Badge!

Happy Birthday to the King!

Happy Birthday to the King!

I’ve been an Elvis fan ever since I can remember. I have seen every movie and heard every song. His Christmas CD is my all-time favorite. Today would have been his 76th birthday.

My favorite songs, as the Kevin Bacon fan from that new Google TV add says, “It’s a tie, between all of them.”

But here are some good ones from YouTube.

Enjoy!

WordPress 3.1 Release Candidate 2

The second release candidate for WordPress 3.1 is now available. The requisite haiku:

Rounding up stragglers
Last few bugs for 3.1
Go test RC2

As I outlined in the announcement post for RC1, release candidates are the last stop before the final release. It means we think we’re done, and we again have no bugs to squash. But with tens of millions of users, many server configurations and setups, and thousands of plugins and themes, it’s still possible we’ve missed something.

Beta 1 came on Thanksgiving, RC1 on Christmas, and RC2 on New Year’s Day. We won’t be waiting for another holiday for the final release, though, so if you haven’t tested WordPress 3.1 yet, now is the time!

Select changes since RC1:

  • The security fixes included in WordPress 3.0.4
  • Fix issues related to handling a static front page
  • Fixes and enhancements for the pagination buttons
  • Fix searching for partial usernames
  • Properly reactivate plugins after editing them
  • Always show the current author in the author dropdown when editing a post
  • Fixes for attachment taxonomies
  • Fix node removal for the admin bar
  • Fix the custom post type show_in_menu argument
  • Various fixes for right-to-left languages
  • and a few dozen more changes

If you are testing the release candidate and think you’ve found a bug, there are a few ways to let us know:

To test WordPress 3.1, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want “bleeding edge nightlies”). Or you can download the release candidate here (zip).

If any known issues crop up, you’ll be able to find them here. If you’d like to know which levers to pull in your testing, check out a list of features in our Beta 1 post.

3.0.4 Important Security Update

Version 3.0.4 of WordPress, available immediately through the update page in your dashboard or for download here, is a very important update to apply to your sites as soon as possible because it fixes a core security bug in our HTML sanitation library, called KSES. I would rate this release as “critical.”

This issue affects all versions of WordPress prior to 3.0.4, so if you are still on a 2.X release you need to update as well.

I realize an update during the holidays is no fun, but this one is worth putting down the eggnog for. In the spirit of the holidays, consider helping your friends as well.

If you are a security researcher, we’d appreciate you taking a look over this changeset as well to review our update. We’ve given it a lot of thought and review but since this is so core we want as many brains on it as possible. Thanks to Mauro Gentile and Jon Cave (duck_) who discovered and alerted us to these XSS vulnerabilities first.

Blue Christmas

My Favorite Christmas Albums

favorite-christmas-albums.jpg

I love Christmas music.

Seems like a little earlier each year the holiday playlist in iTunes starts playing and the songs about chestnuts, bells, snow and one very special baby (an 8lbs 6oz baby that is) are put on repeat.

Here are some of my favorite Christmas albums, both old and new.

New music from Robbie Seay Band out today

I have been listening to Miracle, the Robbie Seay Band’s new album released today and I’ll have to say (well, write) it’s fantastic! The best part about it is you can buy it and download it from Amazon for $5.99.

There are a lot of songs on this CD I really like—actually, I like them all! Some of my favorites are Lament, Let Our Faith Be Not Alone, and Oh, Love That Will Not Let Me Go.

Beside the fact that I really like this CD, I have a lot of respect for Robbie Seay. Last year he honored our small church by performing a concert with Sarah Reeves. There were less than 100 people there but they both had the energy like they were playing to a sold-out stadium. I have a great deal of respect for artists like this.

My Birthday Wish List

People often tell me that I’m a difficult person to buy gifts for. I don’t why. Anyway, my birthday is coming up (April 30th) so for those of you that think I’m difficult to buy for, I’m going to spell it out for you, literally!

So here’s what I want for my birthday:

  1. Hillsong United tickets for St. Louis on April 20th. This is one of my favorite groups and I have always wanted to see them live and never had the chance. I would be thrilled if everyone went together for this.
  2. Money to buy a house. Just a modest house. I’m not looking for a mansion or anything. Now item #1 is not looking so bad, huh?
  3. World Peace. Now #2 is not looking so bad, huh?
  4. Everyone will accept Jesus. Now, #3 is not looking so bad, huh?

So that’s it. Now nobody say how difficult I am to buy for!

What’s on your wish list?
